The BYD Qin L DM-i was launched at an event in Xi'an, where BYD's new fifth-generation DM system, used by the car, was also unveiled. Additionally, the event saw the launch of the Seal 06 DM-i, the twin of the Qin L, which uses the same platform. The Qin L range includes five models priced between 99,800 and 139,800 yuan (13,750 - 19,300 USD), as follows:
The Qin L is part of the Dynasty series of BYD cars and features the new national wave dragon face aesthetics. The car is adorned with the "Qin" character at the front under a chrome bar, and there is a large grille underneath. The design includes bold lines extending from the front fenders to the rear doors, while the rear light cluster, inspired by traditional Chinese knots, creates a continuous stream from side to side.
The dimensions of the Qin L are almost identical to those of the Seal 06 DM-i, except for its considerably wider body. It measures 4830 mm in length, 1900 mm in width, and 1495 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2790 mm. It is noted that the Qin L is larger than the Qin Plus. It uses the same suspension system as the Seal 06, with MacPherson suspension at the front and a new E-type four-link independent suspension at the rear.
BYD claims that the interior design is inspired by Chinese landscape paintings and incorporates various Chinese knot elements. The interior is less busy than that of the Seal 06. Around the gear selector are several physical buttons for controlling functions, a 15.6-inch rotating central infotainment screen, and an 8.8-inch LCD instrument screen. The cars come equipped with six airbags, ETC, mobile phone NFC key, automatic air conditioning, one-touch window control for the driver's side window, tire pressure monitoring system, and at least six speakers.
Higher-spec models add features such as a panoramic sunroof, DiPilot L2 driving assistance system, electrically adjustable front passenger seat, dashcam, 18-inch wheels, eight-speaker sound system, and seat heating and ventilation.
The latest fifth-generation DM technology from BYD debuts in the Qin L and the Seal 06. The new PHEV system optimizes the collaboration between the engine and the electric motor to increase overall efficiency. It uses AI energy consumption management to achieve fuel consumption of 2.9 l/100 km in NEDC mode and 10.7 kWh/100 km in CLTC mode.
The plug-in hybrid system is based on a 1.5-liter engine with a maximum power of 74 kW and 126 Nm of torque. Lower-spec versions have an 80 km (CLTC) all-electric range and use a 10.08 kWh battery and a 120 kW electric motor with 210 Nm of torque. Higher-spec versions are equipped with a 15.874 kWh battery, providing a 120 km CLTC range. These also use the more powerful 160 kW EHS160 motor with 260 Nm of torque. The comprehensive range is up to 2,100 km (CLTC).
At the launch event, BYD chairman Wang Chuanfu presented the keys to the first owners of the Qin L and Seal 06 DM-i cars, marking the beginning of BYD’s fifth-generation DM era.
