Amman – The Jordanian Land Transport Regulatory Commission announced that 2,190 licensed school buses are currently operated by 28 companies as of June, noting that the school transport fleet has increased by 834 vehicles over the past two years, compared to 1,359 buses in June 2023.
According to the Commission’s data, the total public transport fleet, including buses, medium and small passenger vehicles, and taxis, reached 40,274 vehicles. The fleet also includes 998 public service vans, 3,717 medium public passenger vehicles, 838 public buses, and 12,838 tourist rental cars.
The data indicated that the number of tourist car rental offices reached 244 offices, while 10,838 vehicles are registered as private, 9,932 medium buses are registered privately, and 906 buses are registered privately. Vehicles registered for tourist transport numbered 1,146, medium buses registered for tourist transport reached 545, and buses registered for tourist transport totaled 601, with 26 tourist transport companies operating in the country.
Regarding taxi services, the number of yellow taxis reached 5,321 vehicles across 130 offices, while airport taxis totaled 228 vehicles, crossing point taxis numbered 30, and luxury limousine taxis reached 586 vehicles across 25 offices. In addition, hotel taxis numbered 118 vehicles across 15 offices.
The Commission’s report also indicated that international transport operators numbered 23 offices with a total of 252 vehicles, while licensed smart transport application companies totaled 7 companies, operating a fleet of 11,045 vehicles licensed to work through smart applications as of June.
