The President of the Board of Commissioners of the Energy and Minerals Regulatory Commission, Engineer Ziyad Al-Suwaieda, unveiled significant details regarding efforts aimed at enhancing the infrastructure of the electric vehicle network in the Kingdom. Al-Suwaieda confirmed that the commission has issued 364 permits for the establishment of electric charging stations, including 321 public stations.

Regarding the distribution of these stations, Al-Suwaieda explained that there are 52 public fast-charging stations for electric vehicles, in addition to 13 private stations. He affirmed that electric vehicles offer significant benefits to their owners, thereby increasing the demand for a reliable and integrated infrastructure for charging these vehicles.

In terms of the timeline, Al-Suwaieda pointed out that 80% of the stations that obtained permits from the governorates will commence operations during the last quarter of the current year. Additionally, preliminary approvals have been granted for the construction of 270 public charging stations, with expectations that all requirements will be met by the first quarter of 2025.

Al-Suwaieda emphasized that the commission has taken a significant step by increasing the charging fee for fuel stations by 5 fils, aiming to encourage investors to establish more charging stations and enhance the infrastructure for charging electric vehicles across the Kingdom.

Al-Suwaieda concluded by referring to initial estimates indicating the presence of over 100,000 electric vehicles in Jordan, highlighting the importance of continuous efforts to develop the infrastructure to support this sustainable growth in the electric vehicle industry.
