Hyundai Tucson 2027: A Completely New Boxy Design, Larger Dimensions, and an XRT Off-Road Trim

Hyundai has officially revealed the fifth generation of the Tucson 2027, marking the first complete redesign of the model since the current generation debuted in 2020. This time, the changes go far beyond cosmetic updates — the new Tucson adopts an entirely different design identity from its predecessor, alongside larger dimensions and a cabin redesigned from the ground up.

The New Art of Steel Design Language

The Tucson 2027 adopts Hyundai's new design language, called "Art of Steel," which gives the car a more upright and boxy appearance compared to the current generation's flowing design. This philosophy is clearly reflected in the sharp lines, thick front and rear bumpers, pronounced side sills, as well as full-width LED lighting front and rear shaped like the letter H — making the front and rear light signatures nearly identical in design.

Notably Larger Dimensions

In terms of measurements, the new Tucson comes in at 470 cm in length, 190.5 cm in width, and 168.5 cm in height, riding on a 278.5 cm wheelbase. In practical terms, that makes the car 6 cm longer, 4 cm wider, and 3 cm longer in wheelbase compared to the previous generation.

This size increase translates directly into more interior space, with rear-row headroom growing by 2.9 cm, while the rear doors now open to an 83-degree angle instead of 73 degrees in the previous generation, making entry and exit easier.

A Completely New Cabin With the Pleos Infotainment System

The cabin has undergone a radical, ground-up redesign. The new layout is horizontal, featuring a floating upper dashboard separated by continuous air vents, and a large central screen handling infotainment duties, paired with a double D-cut steering wheel designed to improve gauge visibility.

Among the most notable technical additions, the new Tucson gets Hyundai's new infotainment system called Pleos, likely paired with a 17-inch display — the same size used in Hyundai's newer models. The cabin also includes a dual wireless phone charger, a card slot near the driver's air vent, a hidden storage compartment, and a comfortable armrest.

As for colors, Hyundai offers 8 exterior paint options, including new shades like the matte grey "Driftwood Grey Matte" and matte orange "Red Rock Orange Matte," alongside 4 interior color themes.

The Debut of the Off-Road-Focused XRT Trim

One of the standout additions to the Tucson 2027 lineup is the new XRT trim, aimed at buyers seeking a more adventurous look and driving character. The XRT gets an exclusive rectangular front grille design and a wider front skid plate, along with contrasting black wheel arch cladding styled with a pattern inspired by forged carbon fiber.

The trim also includes exclusive XRT-styled wheels, a distinctive rear bumper with a skid plate insert, along with patterned seats and dedicated interior protective flooring exclusive to this trim. XRT's additions aren't limited to appearance alone — some reports suggest a more capable version called XRT Pro may become available in the future, offering greater real-world off-road capability.

Powertrains and Pricing: Details Still to Come

Hyundai has not yet revealed complete details regarding powertrains or the technical platform, though the new model is expected to continue offering a mix of traditional combustion and hybrid options depending on the market, with a possible updated version of Hyundai's 1.6-liter hybrid system among the leading choices.

As for pricing, it's expected to be announced separately as the Tucson 2027's launch date approaches in each market. The rollout will begin in South Korea before gradually expanding to the United States and other global markets, with specifications and powertrain options potentially varying by market.
