Mercedes-Benz is preparing to launch the second generation of the E-Class All Terrain, which was unveiled at the Munich Auto Show in 2023, with expected sales to begin in the European markets in early 2024.
This luxury station wagon is based on the latest update to the E-Class series from Mercedes-Benz, featuring a more powerful exterior design, increased height, and unique interior details.
The update includes modified power generation systems, including a new hybrid system that relies on both gasoline and electricity, purportedly capable of driving solely on electricity for approximately 101 kilometers. Additionally, the new design incorporates a front end with a double-louvered appearance, reminiscent of those used in Mercedes-Benz's sporty SUVs, uniquely designed bumpers to enhance approach and departure angles, black plastic cladding in the wheel arches, and chrome embellishments on the sides.
As for the interior design, the E-Class All Terrain stands out with stainless steel AMG-style pedal covers and All Terrain-branded floor mats. With dimensions of 4950 mm in length, 1904 mm in width, and 1497 mm in height, the new car is 17 mm longer than its predecessor, providing more legroom and knee space for rear passengers.
The luggage capacity measures 615 liters in the regular E-Class, extending to 1830 liters when the rear passenger seats, in a 40:20:40 split, are folded. The hybrid battery reduces this capacity by 155 liters in hybrid models.
The E-Class All Terrain will be available with diesel, gasoline, and hybrid engine options, all equipped with a nine-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive as a standard option. The engines include a four-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine with a displacement of 2.0 liters producing 192 horsepower in the E220d 4Matic and a six-cylinder turbocharged gasoline engine with a displacement of 3.0 liters producing 375 horsepower in the E450 4Matic. Both engines come with a 48-volt hybrid battery, adding 23 horsepower to the performance through an integrated starter generator located in the front section of the transmission box.
Driving features can be controlled through the new intelligent driving system, offering functions such as adaptive cruise control, autonomous speed control, and lane-keeping assistance. Among the other standard features in the E-Class All Terrain are the MBUX digital TV system with a 12.3-inch touchscreen providing driving and entertainment information, four-zone climate control, front and rear seat adjustments, multi-beam LED headlights with high-beam assistance, a Burmester sound system with 13 speakers, and a wireless smartphone charger.
The official price for the second generation of the E-Class All Terrain has not been announced yet, but it is expected to be higher than the previous generation's starting price of around 50,000 euros in Germany.
