Nissan Halts All Investments in Combustion Engines to Focus Solely on Electric Vehicles

Yesterday, Nissan announced its decision to cease all investments in new internal combustion engine development and focus entirely on electric motors, batteries, and related technologies.

Nissan's Complete Shift to Electric

In an interview with Drive magazine, Nissan's Vice President Francois Bailly stated, "Our future is electric, and we will not invest in new internal combustion engines. This is a final decision."

Bailly pointed out that Nissan will transition from traditional gasoline engines to pure electric motors through the new e-Power hybrid technology, which is currently available in several Nissan models. This technology serves as a temporary bridge between conventional and electric engines.

Different Perspectives Among Japanese Companies

It's worth noting that competing Japanese companies, such as Toyota, Mazda, and Subaru, still believe in the long-term viability of internal combustion engines, especially with the potential shift to new carbon-neutral fuels like synthetic and hydrogen fuels.
