Engineer Mohammad Al-Maayeh, Director of Electricity and Renewable Energy at the Energy and Minerals Regulatory Commission, announced that the commission has decided to temporarily suspend the issuance of approvals for the installation of electric vehicle charging meters in homes. This suspension will remain in effect until the completion of regulatory guidelines for electric vehicle charging activities.
During his appearance on the "Al-Wakeel" program on Radio Hala, Engineer Al-Maayeh stated that this decision was made in response to the significant increase in demand for these meters, as well as the rising number of complaints about individuals installing these meters on the external walls of apartments and building entrances, which violates property ownership laws. He explained that the electrical cables used in residential buildings are designed for domestic use only, and their use for charging electric vehicles causes power outages in homes due to the inability of the circuit breakers to handle the increased load.
Engineer Al-Maayeh emphasized that the suspension of approvals is a temporary measure pending the issuance of new guidelines. He noted that the commission has already granted over 3,000 approvals for the installation of electric vehicle charging meters at a designated tariff for this service.
