Land Rover Set to Discontinue Range Rover Evoque and Velar in 2027 as It Shifts Focus Towards Luxury

Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) is preparing to end the production careers of the Range Rover Evoque and Range Rover Velar as both models approach the end of their current product life cycles, with no plans to develop new generations. The move reflects the company's strategy to restructure the Range Rover family and place greater emphasis on more luxurious and higher-priced models.
According to media reports citing comments by Range Rover brand director Martin Limpert, both models will remain available in selected global markets during 2027 before production comes to an end. He also indicated that the company is not currently developing a new generation of either model, meaning the current Evoque and Velar will be their final generations.
This move is part of Jaguar Land Rover's strategy to establish clearer identities for its Range Rover, Defender and Discovery brands. Range Rover will focus on more premium vehicles positioned at higher price points, while Defender and Discovery will cater to lower-priced segments and offer customers a wider range of options.
Following the departure of the Evoque and Velar, the Range Rover lineup will consist of the full-size Range Rover and Range Rover Sport, alongside the new Range Rover GT, which the company officially unveiled in July 2026 as the fifth member of the family.
The Range Rover GT is expected to launch initially as a fully electric model, based on the new electric EMA platform. This platform is also expected to support a full-hybrid option at a later stage in the model's life cycle. The vehicle takes a different approach from conventional SUVs, featuring a lower, more streamlined design inspired by luxury grand touring cars.
With this move, Range Rover is heading towards a lineup focused on its most luxurious models, while Defender and Discovery will attract customers looking for more accessible options, as part of a broader strategy to redistribute roles among the company's brands.
