The free zone has recently witnessed an exceptional surge in the inspection and clearance of vehicles stored in bonded warehouses and the free zone. This comes as a result of the Cabinet's decision to reduce customs duties, which was approved earlier this week.
In light of this development, Eng. Abeer Barakat Al-Zuhair, Director General of the Jordan Standards and Metrology Organization (JSMO), announced a series of new measures aimed at facilitating and expediting the approval process for the entry of electric vehicles. She emphasized that the organization's teams possess the expertise and readiness to address the current and anticipated challenges in the electric vehicle sector, aligning with the Cabinet's decisions. She also highlighted that qualified personnel are working efficiently during and outside official working hours to review approval requests, in coordination with the Public Security Directorate / Licensing Department, to ensure the swift implementation of procedures without delays.
Al-Zuhair underlined the significance of the conformity assessment guidelines issued by the organization, which aim to ensure the safety and reliability of electric vehicles while protecting consumer rights. These guidelines include the application of rigorous standards covering various aspects of the vehicle, from tires to operational systems. She affirmed that the organization oversees the enforcement of these standards through certified inspection centers that have been carefully selected based on stringent criteria.
Notably, "Autoscore" a specialized vehicle inspection center, is the only entity that has successfully met all the standards and requirements set by the organization. The center has received official accreditation from local and international institutions, making it the optimal choice for ensuring compliance with the highest quality and safety standards.
In a related context, Salama Al-Jabali, the President of the Jordanian Automobile Dealers and Spare Parts Association, expressed his appreciation for the measures implemented by JSMO. He commended their efforts to simplify and expedite the approval processes for electric vehicles stored in the free zone or bonded warehouses before November 23 of the current year.
