Lexus has officially unveiled the updated 2027 NX, introducing a comprehensive facelift that goes beyond exterior styling to include the cabin, powertrain, chassis, steering, suspension, and the brand’s latest hybrid technologies.

The new Lexus NX receives an updated front fascia, new lighting elements, revised rear styling, and new wheel designs. Inside, the cabin adopts a new design focused on simplicity, featuring a 14-inch central display and 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. Lexus has also worked on increasing body rigidity while improving cabin insulation, comfort, and steering response.

New Exterior Design for the 2027 Lexus NX

The 2027 NX retains the core proportions and overall design language of the current generation, but Lexus has introduced a range of changes to give the SUV a more modern and sporty appearance.

At the front, the vehicle receives a new grille without the traditional prominent surround, with the headlights and functional elements integrated more smoothly into the front-end design.

The headlights also feature a new lighting signature that incorporates the turn signals and daytime running lights into a distinctive dual-line design.

At the rear, Lexus has redesigned the taillights with the brand’s Double L Signature, accompanied by an illuminated Lexus badge that enhances the vehicle’s visual presence.

Some exterior details, including the mirror caps and trim elements, now feature black finishes instead of some of the previous chrome treatments. New exterior colors are also available, including Shaded Ivy and Incognito for the F SPORT variant.

The F SPORT version also receives exclusive styling elements, including lightweight 20-inch aluminum wheels, red brake calipers, and revised bumpers and aerodynamic components.

Fully Redesigned Interior With a 14-Inch Display

The most significant changes appear inside the cabin, where Lexus has redesigned the dashboard, center console, and several controls.

At the center is a 14-inch Lexus Interface display, which is standard across all trims in the U.S. market. It sits alongside a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster in a new horizontal layout designed to improve visibility and accessibility.

The vehicle also receives a smaller steering wheel, with Lexus reducing its diameter by 0.4 inches to approximately 14.2 inches. The new setup is paired with a variable-ratio steering system designed to improve responsiveness and maneuverability.

The accelerator pedal has also been revised to provide smoother and more precise movement, with reduced friction and a more linear acceleration response.

Lexus Works to Make the NX Quieter

The updates are not limited to styling. Lexus engineers have also focused on increasing body rigidity and reducing noise and vibrations.

Several engine components have been redesigned to increase rigidity and reduce sources of resonance and vibration, while additional sound-insulating materials have been added in various areas of the vehicle.

Specialized reports indicate that these changes have helped reduce engine and road noise by approximately 20%, while Lexus officially says that improvements to structural rigidity and suspension tuning contribute to lower road noise and greater cabin comfort.

Lexus has also strengthened the vehicle’s floor structure by adding new braces and redesigned the suspension towers and structural components to improve rigidity and stability.

Larger Battery and More Than 100 km of Electric Range

One of the most significant mechanical updates for the 2027 NX is the larger battery fitted to the NX 450h+ plug-in hybrid.

Battery capacity has increased from approximately 18 kWh to 23 kWh, an increase of around 30%, helping raise the EV-only driving range to more than 100 km based on preliminary WLTP estimates.

The NX 450h+ also becomes the first Lexus plug-in hybrid to support DC fast charging, allowing the battery to charge from 10% to 80% in approximately 30 minutes, according to preliminary European specifications.

The new battery’s cells are arranged transversely rather than longitudinally, contributing to greater lateral body rigidity. Its low-mounted position also helps lower the vehicle’s center of gravity.

NX 450h+ Produces 303 HP

The NX 450h+ combines a 2.5-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine with electric motors and an all-wheel-drive system.

According to Lexus Europe, total system output reaches 303 horsepower (307 DIN hp), with a preliminary 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 6.1 seconds.

The electric E-Four all-wheel-drive system also operates across a wider range of driving conditions, including acceleration, cornering, and low-traction surfaces. The new control strategy can also maintain all-wheel drive during straight-line driving when required.

What About the NX 350h?

The NX 350h continues with a self-charging hybrid system, using Lexus’ sixth-generation hybrid technology.

Preliminary European specifications list system output at 199 DIN hp, with front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive available depending on the market and trim.

The hybrid system has received updates to energy management and cooling of the electrical components, along with a lighter battery and improvements to the response of the electric components.

What About the 2.4-Liter Turbo Engine?

The 2.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, producing around 275 hp, continues to be offered in some markets that retain the non-hybrid NX variant. Availability of this powertrain varies by market.

In the United States, however, Lexus has announced that the 2027 NX lineup will consist entirely of HEV and PHEV powertrains, with the conventional gasoline-only version being discontinued.

This means that the final specifications available in the Middle East and other regions may differ from those offered in the U.S. or Europe, depending on Lexus’ strategy for each market.

Faster Steering and More Advanced Suspension

Lexus has retuned the steering and suspension systems to make the NX more responsive while maintaining its focus on comfort.

The vehicle uses a variable-ratio steering system through a Variable Rack Gear, while the suspension receives new shock absorbers equipped with low-speed valves capable of generating rapid damping forces even during small suspension movements.

The braking system has also been refined to help stabilize the vehicle during sudden maneuvers and lane changes by controlling body yaw and roll.

Lexus developed and tested the vehicle at Toyota’s technical center in Shimoyama, as well as on Germany’s Nürburgring circuit to fine-tune its handling and response under different conditions.

Updated Technology and Safety Systems

The 2027 NX receives the latest generation of the Lexus Interface infotainment system, with updated functions including integrated trip and incident recording, split-screen functionality, and connected services.

The Digital Key feature is also available, allowing compatible smart devices to function as a vehicle key, alongside connected safety and remote maintenance services.

The vehicle is also equipped with Lexus Safety System+ 4.0 in U.S.-market specifications, offering improved hazard detection and expanded driver-assistance capabilities.

Sensory Concierge: A Different Cabin Experience

Another new feature for the 2027 NX is Sensory Concierge, available on certain trims. The system combines lighting, sound, climate control, seat temperature, and fragrances to create different cabin environments.

It offers different modes, including Inspire, Radiance, and Revitalize, with the option to select different fragrances to customize the atmosphere inside the cabin.

When Will the 2027 Lexus NX Reach Global Markets?

Lexus expects to roll out the updated NX across global markets gradually.

In Europe, the new NX is scheduled to go on sale from spring 2027, with pre-orders expected to open in fall 2026. Lexus has also announced that the vehicle will be available in some global markets by the end of 2026.

Pricing and final equipment specifications will vary depending on the market and trim, with more details expected closer to the vehicle’s market launch.
