In the context of a recent independent study, a Tesla Semi electric truck has achieved a remarkable feat by covering a distance of over 1600 kilometers in just one day. This achievement has shattered all doubts and concerns surrounding the capabilities of electric semi-trucks, particularly those in Class 8.
One of the prominent skeptics of electric semi-trucks, including Tesla's Semi, was Bill Gates. He believed that electric semi-trucks, due to the weight of their batteries, would "never work" and couldn't compete with traditional diesel trucks. He expressed doubts about their ability to achieve a range of 800 kilometers, which is crucial for long-haul transportation. However, Tesla proved Gates wrong last year when it conducted a test run covering a distance of 800 kilometers with a substantial load on a single charge.
Today, the North American Council for Freight Efficiency (NACFE) continues to conduct a study as part of its new program, "Run on Less." This program involves testing various electric trucks under real-world conditions and publishing data in real-time.
In this year's program, three new Tesla Semi trucks were included, and the preliminary data collected earlier this month has been released. At the conclusion of the 18-day study, Tesla Semi truck number 3 shattered records by covering a distance of 1731 kilometers in just one day.
It's worth noting that Michel Luchelle, the new CEO of Nikola Motor Company, issued a challenge last month when he announced that one of his hydrogen trucks covered 1448 kilometers in a single day. He confidently asserted that there is no other emissions-free truck capable of achieving such a distance.
This new achievement by Tesla represents a significant step in confirming the extraordinary capabilities of electric trucks. It challenges the prevailing belief that electric trucks cannot compete with their traditional diesel counterparts. Moreover, it signifies a pivotal shift in the heavy transportation industry, strengthening the vision of a future heavily reliant on clean and sustainable energy sources.
