Audi Officially Unveils the Q9 2027 The Biggest SUV in the German Brand's History
Audi has officially unveiled the Q9 2027, the largest SUV in the German brand's history, entering direct competition in the large luxury segment.
A New Flagship Leading the Audi Lineup
Rumors around the Q9 came after years of anticipation, with Audi having already confirmed its intention to launch a model competing in this specific segment. According to official statements from the company, the Q9 represents Audi's new flagship model, arriving as the brand's first-ever full-size SUV, elevating the luxury brand's positioning.
In terms of dimensions, the Q9 measures 5.31 meters in length, 2.21 meters in width, and 1.81 meters in height, with a wheelbase reaching 3.14 meters — making it the largest vehicle Audi has ever produced.
A Bold Exterior Design That Sets It Apart From the Q7
The Q9 features a bold exterior design sharing some family traits with Audi's smaller models. The front end carries thin daytime running lights at the base of the hood, large rectangular headlights, and a massive oval-shaped grille. A wide air intake spans the full width of the lower bumper, leading into flared fenders, sporty wheels, and doors with pronounced lower cutouts.
At the rear, the SUV features a large spoiler, R-shaped split taillights, a thin horizontal light bar, and rectangular exhaust outlets. Among the most notable technical touches are the new curved digital rear lights — the first of their kind in the world — which blend more seamlessly with the body's contours. The car also gets digital Matrix LED headlights with a Micro-LED module, offering excellent light range and high clarity on the road, along with advanced turn signals that project a light pattern onto the ground when turning or changing lanes at night.
Business-Class-Level Interior Luxury
Inside, Audi focuses entirely on luxury and comfort. There's an 11.9-inch digital driver's display, a 14.5-inch curved central touchscreen, and a standard 12.3-inch front passenger screen equipped with a dynamic privacy mode.
The standout cabin feature, however, is the panoramic roof: the glass panoramic sunroof spans more than 1.5 square meters, making it the largest ever fitted to an Audi. This roof can be opened or tilted to allow airflow, and the coated, laminated glass reflects infrared light along with 99.5% of UV radiation. Most notably, the roof's transparency can be optionally controlled across 9 individually adjustable zones, allowing users to choose maximum light or maximum glare protection.
The SUV is offered in a three-row seating configuration, with the option of either a three-seat rear bench or two individual seats with heating and ventilation. The front seats come with heating, ventilation, and massage functions, along with speakers built into the headrests. Rounding out the cabin's luxurious character is a Bang & Olufsen sound system delivering 1,360 watts of output across a total of 22 speakers.
Engine Options: From Economical Diesel to a Sporty V8
Audi is launching the Q9 with three engine options covering a range of tastes and markets:
3.0L V6 Diesel: producing 295 horsepower and 630 Nm of torque, paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission and permanent quattro all-wheel drive — the engine available at launch in the European market.
2.9L Twin-Turbo V6 Petrol: producing 429 horsepower and 442 lb-ft of torque (599 Nm), with an 8-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive.
4.0L Twin-Turbo V8: reserved for the top-spec SQ9 performance variant, producing 591 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque, giving the car performance befitting its status as Audi's new flagship.
The SUV also comes standard with adaptive air suspension, alongside advanced safety and driver-assistance systems — including the Adaptive Driving Assistant Plus, which enables hands-free, semi-autonomous driving in supported conditions.
Where the Q9 Fits in the Market
The Q9 is positioned above the Q8 as Audi's flagship luxury SUV, directly targeting both the BMW X7 and the Mercedes-Benz GLS. With this launch, Audi officially enters the largest segment of luxury SUVs, following a long absence from this specific category.
