The number of maintenance centers registered on the Mandatory Vehicle Warranty platform has exceeded 11 centers so far, since the implementation of the mandatory warranty decision for new cars when sold by dealers and exhibitors other than agents, starting from last October until the end of last March. The number of registered traders reached 694, with 13,668 registered cars, while the number of insured cars reached 12,822.
Minister of Industry, Trade, and Supply, Yusuf Al-Shamali, stated that the Consumer Protection Directorate in the ministry has been monitoring the implementation of the Cabinet decision to impose warranties on new cars sold by dealers and exhibitors other than agents. Al-Shamali clarified that they received 10 complaints within 6 months of implementing the decision, 3 of which were in 2023 and 7 since the beginning of the current year.
Al-Shamali pointed out that the complaints focused on the scope of covered and excluded warranty, in addition to delays in repairing the vehicle and the resulting damages.
He explained that the ministry, through the Consumer Protection Directorate, has developed a comprehensive plan to implement the decision and has established a dedicated platform for mandatory warranties, linking it with relevant entities such as the General Customs Department and the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Directorate. He affirmed that they have received and approved accredited maintenance centers and insurance agents as warranty providers.
Additionally, he stated that the ministry formed a technical committee specifically for mandatory warranties to ensure the implementation of the decision, and conducted field visits to 12 maintenance centers within 6 months.
The decision to impose mandatory warranties on cars dates back to September last year when the Cabinet issued a decision to require new models of cars imported by dealers and exhibitors other than agents to have a written warranty for 3 years or 50,000 kilometers, or for 2 years or 40,000 kilometers for gasoline and hybrid cars. The mandatory warranty value ranges between 3 and 7 percent of the car's value, with a minimum of 300 Jordanian dinars, excluding sales tax.
