Ford has officially revealed the Mustang Dark Horse SC Convertible, making it the most powerful and the first high-performance convertible Mustang the automaker has built in over 13 years. Ford describes it as an "ultimate top-down grand touring machine," rather than a convertible built primarily to chase lap times.

Mustang Dark Horse SC Convertible Engine: 5.2L Supercharged V8 with 795 HP

At the heart of the Mustang Dark Horse SC Convertible is the same 5.2-liter supercharged V8 found in the coupe — the same engine used in the Mustang GTD supercar:

• Power: 795 horsepower.
• Torque: 660 lb-ft (895 Nm).
• A 7-speed dual-clutch transmission, carried over from the previous Shelby GT500.
• Exclusively rear-wheel drive.

Convertible vs. Coupe: Same Power, Different Suspension Tuning

The Mustang Dark Horse SC Convertible shares most of its mechanical components with the coupe, but Ford made specific changes suited to the open-top format:

• Next-generation MagneRide dampers at all four corners, with unique springs and sway bars for a smoother, everyday-friendly tune.
• A magnesium tower brace to compensate for the rigidity lost without a fixed roof.
• Aerodynamic tweaks to the hood vent to offset the different airflow profile created by the soft top.
• Unique rear wing stanchions for the deck lid, matching the coupe's profile and attack angle but without gurney flaps.

Pricing & Release Date

Ford hasn't announced official convertible-specific pricing yet, but it's expected to start close to the coupe's roughly $108,085 base price, with a likely ceiling near $110,000 depending on options. Order books open in fall 2026, with deliveries beginning in spring 2027.
