The vehicle sector in Jordan experienced a noticeable decline during the first third of 2026, as local clearance activity for all types of vehicles dropped by more than 50% compared to the same period last year. These figures were revealed in official performance indicators issued by the Jordanian Free and Development Zones Group.

Sharp Decline in Electric and Hybrid Vehicle Clearance

Official data published by local media, including Al Mamlaka TV, showed that electric vehicles suffered the biggest shock in the market. The clearance rate for EVs plummeted by 78%, bringing the total number of cleared vehicles down to just 2,263.

The decline was not limited to electric vehicles; hybrid vehicle clearance also fell by 55%, standing at 3,836 vehicles. Meanwhile, clearance for gasoline-powered vehicles decreased by 53% to settle at 7,572 vehicles, reflecting a state of slowdown and quietness currently dominating the local automotive market.

Local and International Vehicle Export Trends

The indicators pointed out that total local vehicle exports stabilized at 7,646 vehicles, marking a 58% drop with a total value of 124 million Jordanian Dinars. On the other hand, international vehicle exports reached 10,333 vehicles, registering a 57% decrease, valued at approximately 134 million Dinars.

Overall, the number of vehicles entering the Free Zones decreased by 53% to reach 24,198 vehicles with a value of 293 million Dinars. In contrast, total outgoing vehicles fell by 58%, recording 17,979 vehicles valued at 259 million Dinars.

Growth in Cargo Movement and Investment Agreements

In contrast to the downturn faced by the automotive sector, logistical and commercial indicators showed positive resilience in other sectors within the Free Zones. The value of exported cargo surged by 11% to reach 437 million Dinars, while the value of imported cargo rose by 8%, recording 386 million Dinars.

On the investment front, the number of signed investment and commercial agreements increased by 2%, reaching 2,803 agreements during the first third of this year. This highlights continued investor confidence in the industrial and logistical sectors hosted by the Kingdom's Free and Development Zones.
