Ford Explorer 2027 Facelift Officially Revealed in China with Aesthetic Upgrades and a Mechanical Surprise

Ford has officially unveiled the updated facelift version of its famous SUV, the Ford Explorer 2027, tailored exclusively for the Chinese market. Produced via the Changan Ford joint venture, this release comes ahead of its official market launch before the end of this year, aimed at boosting its competitiveness in the three-row SUV segment.

Exterior Design: A Digital and Aggressive Front End That Outshines the American Model

Most of the core updates for the 2027 model are concentrated on the exterior appearance, making the vehicle look more modern and aggressive. It features:

  • Updated Front Grille: It comes with a larger size and a sculpted geometric design that varies depending on the trim (such as the sporty ST-Line and the off-road-oriented Timberline).
  • Advanced Lighting System: Brand new front LEDs stretch across the entire width of the fascia as a continuous light bar, paired with slimmer rear taillights extending further toward the center of the tailgate.
  • Refreshed Bumpers: A different dynamic design for both front and rear bumpers gives the vehicle a wider visual stance and an imposing height that enhances its sporty character.

Smart Interior and a Technology-Focused Cabin

The Chinese variant continues to set itself apart with a cabin that outpaces the American version in its technological dimensions. It retains an integrated digital dashboard featuring a massive panoramic display screen that extends all the way to the front passenger side. The screen integrates the smart infotainment and connectivity system (SYNC Plus 3.0), powered by advanced Qualcomm Snapdragon processors to ensure ultra-fast responsiveness, alongside an elevated center console that provides extra storage spaces and a higher level of luxury.

Engine and Performance: A Single Mechanical Choice and a Strange Surprise

Mechanically, the Ford Explorer 2027 has not undergone any changes under the hood in China, as it continues to rely on its sole option:

  • Engine: 2.3-liter turbocharged EcoBoost four-cylinder.
  • Horsepower: 286 hp.
  • Torque: 445 Nm.
  • Transmission: Advanced 10-speed automatic.

The strange and surprising aspect of Ford's marketing strategy in China is that the Explorer is not offered there with the 3.0-liter V6 engine options (which produce 400 hp in the US market), nor is it available in hybrid versions. Automotive industry analysts view this decision as highly unusual, especially since China is the world's largest market for electric and plug-in new energy vehicles (NEVs).
