Hyundai is gearing up to strengthen its presence in China's electric vehicle market with the IONIQ V, a new electric sedan developed specifically for the Chinese market. It combines a sleek design, generous interior space, AI technologies, and driver assistance systems, alongside a competitive starting price of 119,900 yuan — around $16,800.

Beijing Hyundai began accepting pre-orders for the car in 2026, offering it in three trims priced between 119,900 and 139,900 yuan (roughly $16,800 to $19,600). The car is scheduled to officially launch in the Chinese market in September 2026.

The infotainment system runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 processor, paired with an AI assistant based on large language models (LLMs), enabling voice-command interaction with the car.

To further tailor the car to the Chinese market, Hyundai also partnered with local tech companies, integrating AI technologies from Baidu and ByteDance — including Ernie Bot and Doubao — to provide a digital experience more closely tied to the services and platforms used in China.

The car also comes with an 8-speaker sound system supporting Dolby Atmos.

Up to 650 Kilometers of Range

The IONIQ V is offered in three fully electric trims, with trim names tied to their advertised driving range.

The top-tier 650 Max+ trim offers up to 650 km of range under China's CLTC cycle, while the other two trims carry a 540 km rating.

Available information points to the use of CATL batteries, with capacities reaching approximately 66.8 kWh, alongside support for 800-volt fast-charging technology.

The 800-volt system is among the key technologies that help reduce battery charging time when using compatible charging stations.

Important note: Range figures under China's CLTC standard may be higher than figures obtained under other testing cycles, so the 650 km range shouldn't necessarily be considered equivalent to real-world range under all driving conditions or in Gulf and Jordanian markets.

Power Reaching Up to 225 Horsepower

The Hyundai IONIQ V is built around a single electric motor, with power output varying by trim.

The top version reaches 168 kW, roughly 225 hp, while other versions offer a 140 kW motor, approximately 188 hp.

This setup gives the car performance suited to the mid-size electric sedan class, benefiting from an electric drivetrain that delivers instant torque response.

Smart Driving Systems from Momenta

Hyundai didn't focus solely on the electric drivetrain — it also developed driver assistance technologies in partnership with the Chinese tech company Momenta.

Will the IONIQ V Reach Arab Markets?

As of now, there's no official announcement regarding the Hyundai IONIQ V's launch in Arab markets.

Hyundai clarifies that the announced specifications and features pertain to the version developed for the Chinese market, while the possibility of launching it in other markets will be evaluated later.
