1.8 Million Tesla Vehicles Recalled Due to Hood Latch Issue

A large number of Tesla models from 2020-2024, including the S, 3, X, and Y, have been recalled. Tesla has stated that a free update can fix the issue without the need for a service center visit, as it can be done through the car's internal system.

Specifically, in some Tesla models, there is a possibility of a software glitch that prevents the vehicle from detecting that the hood is not fully closed. In the worst-case scenario, the hood could open while driving, obstructing the front view and increasing the likelihood of an accident.

This issue affects a significant number of vehicles. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reported that approximately 1,849,638 Tesla vehicles might be affected. The recall list includes Model S (from 2021 to 2024), Model 3 (from 2021 to 2024), Model X (from 2021 to 2024), and Model Y (from 2020 to 2024). The Cybertruck is not included in the recall.

Although the number of affected vehicles reaches millions, the good news is that none of them need to be taken to service centers. Instead, Tesla mentioned that the hood latch detection software issue can be fixed through a free remote update released by the company.

Owners will be notified by mail by September 22, 2024. They can also check the Tesla customer service website or the NHTSA recall website to see if their vehicle is affected.
