The Honda E:NS1 is an electric car that has gained attention due to its advanced technology and attractive design, offering good performance compared to many cars in its category. This has led to its rapid spread, especially in the Middle East and the local market in Jordan. In this article, we will review the key features and drawbacks observed and tested in the Honda E:NS1 after its use and experience.
There are two versions of the Honda NS1, categorized by dealers as E4 for the higher version and E3 for the lower version. However, the original names given by the Chinese are E ging for the version with all the add-ons and E Mobile for the lower version. It's worth mentioning that there is also an E1 version, which has fewer features and lacks any significant additions. This version has a smaller battery capacity and has not been widely imported due to its limited suitability for the local market in Jordan.
Engine and Performance:
Both versions (E4, E3) feature a front-mounted electric motor producing 150 kW (201 horsepower) and a torque of 310 Nm (228 lb-ft). The lithium-ion triple battery provides 68.8 kWh, offering a driving range of up to 317 miles (510 kilometers) in the CLTC cycle in China. However, real-world test results have recorded a range of around 440 kilometers per charge. As for the lower E1 version, it also has a front-wheel-drive electric motor producing 134 kW (182 horsepower) and a torque of 310 Nm, with a top speed of 150 km/h and a battery capacity of about 53.6 kWh.
Regarding the real-world evaluation of battery performance, reviewers will need more time to study the battery's responsiveness and long-term performance, particularly after a minimum of 3 years of use.
Design and Specifications:
At first glance, the Honda E:NS1 stands out with its exterior design that blends elegance and practicality well. However, the actual evaluation of visual appeal depends on individual preferences and cannot be universally generalized. The size and design of the car are proportional and thoughtful, providing ample interior space, which is a positive point. Nevertheless, some may find that the interior has been slightly influenced by a design different from previous Honda models, deviating a bit from the traditional identity preferred by Honda customers.
The higher version, E ging (or E4), comes with several interesting additions, including heated front and rear seats, power-adjustable front seats, front and rear sensors, self-parking technology, seven cameras for a 360-degree view and blind-spot monitoring, a BOSE audio system with 12 speakers, a remote control with various functions, and embroidered upholstery for all seats. The lower version, E Mobile (or E3), includes only heated front seats and a power-adjustable driver's seat.
Manufacturing Defects and Recalls:
Initially, Autohub, the distributor of Honda in Jordan, is recognized as a leading company providing official warranties for electric cars in the country, endorsed by the Ministry of Industry and Trade and also approved by the German company Bosch.
In October of the previous year, Autohub issued an immediate recall for all E:NS1 cars under its warranty due to a manufacturing defect in the charging inverter system. Indeed, the charging inverters for many cars have been replaced.
Again, in December of the same year, Autohub issued another immediate recall for all E:NS1 cars under its warranty due to suspected issues in the electric transmission system. Many cars were serviced and inspected at that time. [Read more about the recall.](link to the recall details)
Moreover, some issues related to the lack of compatibility of certain systems that rely on the car's origin have emerged, such as the face recognition system, satellite communication systems, and the radio system.
