The Jordanian Cabinet, chaired by Dr. Bishr Al-Khasawneh, approved in its session held yesterday, Sunday, a revised system for driving license fees and vehicle registration and licensing for the year 2024.
The amended system aims to address the situation of small private passenger vehicles and registered and licensed rental vehicles registered between August 22, 1999, and June 15, 2005, considering their owners the most affected by the increase in licensing fees.
The revised system also aims to facilitate the process of renewing the license for these vehicles, which positively impacts the regularity of their licensing process.
In this context, Brigadier Ahmed Al-Kafaween, former Director of the Drivers and Vehicles Licensing Department, had announced a list of fees approved since 2015 for vehicle licenses, confirming at the time that there had been a reduction of approximately 70% in the licensing fees for hybrid cars.
Regarding the licensing fees for gasoline-operated vehicles according to the previous system, Al-Kafaween explained that they vary according to engine capacity, ranging from 30 JD for vehicles with an engine capacity exceeding 1000 cc up to 600 JD for vehicles with an engine capacity exceeding 4000 cc.
Al-Kafaween further clarified that only 33% of vehicles witnessed an actual increase in their licensing fees, with the highest fees reaching 180 JD for vehicles classified as public transport, totaling around 137 thousand vehicles.
As for fully electric vehicles, Al-Kafaween pointed out that their annual licensing fees have been reduced to a fixed fee of only 50 JD, indicating that the previous system was based on the customs value.
Al-Kafaween concluded that in that year, the status of vehicles classified as public transport had been amended, where they are now dealt with according to engine capacity to achieve fairness among the owners of these vehicles.
