Jihad Abu Nasser, the representative of the vehicle sector at the Jordanian Free Zones Investors Commission, announced a 12% increase in the total clearance volume for vehicles during the first half of 2024. Despite this rise, no electric cars have been cleared under the new regulations for European specifications yet.
In a press statement, Abu Nasser explained that the number of vehicles cleared from the Zarqa Free Zone reached 33,954 during the first half of 2024, compared to 31,465 vehicles in the same period of the previous year.
Abu Nasser affirmed that this increase reflects a higher demand for vehicles, particularly electric ones, which saw significant growth in clearance activities. He noted that electric vehicles accounted for the largest share of clearances at 66.5%, with 22,604 electric vehicles cleared in the first half of 2024, compared to 13,861 vehicles in the same period in 2023, representing a growth of 63%.
He added that the clearance of diesel vehicles also saw a 7% increase, with 3,470 vehicles cleared in the first half of this year, compared to 3,255 vehicles in the same period last year.
On the other hand, the clearance of gasoline vehicles declined significantly, dropping by 57%, with 2,683 vehicles cleared compared to 6,310 vehicles in the same period last year.
The clearance of hybrid vehicles also witnessed a 35% decrease, with 5,197 vehicles cleared in the first half of this year, compared to 8,039 vehicles in the same period last year.
Regarding re-export, it recorded a growth of 17%, with 23,796 vehicles re-exported during the first half of 2024, compared to 20,328 vehicles in the same period last year.
