Greater Amman Municipality Begins Operating New Radars to Monitor Traffic Violations.

The Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) announced the commencement of operating traffic violation monitoring radars in several main streets within its boundaries, starting today, Sunday. This step comes as part of the municipality's continuous efforts to enhance traffic safety and reduce accidents.

According to a statement issued by the municipality, operating these radars falls within an integrated plan aimed at improving compliance with traffic rules and monitoring dangerous violations. These violations include excessive speed, running red lights, sudden lane changes at traffic lights, and stopping or standing on pedestrian crosswalks.

The statement explained that the municipality selected the radar locations based on field traffic studies targeting points most prone to accidents and congestion.

It indicated that the operation of all project components will be completed during this month and until April 28th. The project includes 20 radars, traffic light cameras, and Point To Point cameras to calculate and monitor average speed.

The municipality worked on reinforcing all the mentioned locations with clear traffic signs specifying the designated speeds on each axis, to ensure advance warning for drivers and to raise the level of compliance with traffic rules.

For his part, the Traffic Operations Director, Shadi Al-Rawabdeh, confirmed that this project is a qualitative step in developing the traffic control system in the capital. He pointed out that using modern technologies will contribute to improving traffic flow and reducing dangerous behavior on roads.

Al-Rawabdeh added that the primary goal of applying this system is to promote a culture of traffic compliance and prevent accidents, not to issue violations. He called on drivers to abide by the traffic law and traffic instructions for their safety and the safety of others.
