Greater Amman Municipality: Drinking coffee in public transport is a violation... and classified as driver distraction in private vehicles.

Engineer Shadi Al-Rawabdeh, Director of Traffic Operations at the Greater Amman Municipality, confirmed in an exclusive statement that reinforcing roads with new cameras and radars will contribute to regulating traffic violations with greater precision and effectiveness, aiming to protect lives and enhance traffic safety for everyone.

Regarding consuming beverages while driving, Al-Rawabdeh explained that drinking coffee inside public transport vehicles is considered an explicit violation under the Traffic Law, given its potential impact on the driver's focus.

As for private vehicles, Al-Rawabdeh pointed out that although there is no explicit text directly prohibiting drinking coffee, any action that leads to distracting the driver falls under the "driver distraction" clause adopted in the Traffic Law and is considered a traffic violation.

Al-Rawabdeh stressed that these measures primarily aim to reduce behaviors and distractions that might lead to traffic accidents, and to maintain the safety of all road users and pedestrians.
