Toyota Aygo X Hybrid: A New Chapter in Urban Compact Cars

Toyota has unveiled a thoroughly revamped version of its compact city car, the Aygo X, now offered for the first time with a hybrid powertrain. This move is aimed at strengthening the model’s position within the urban compact segment, particularly in Europe—where demand for small, efficient vehicles continues to rise.

The updated Aygo X replaces its previous 1.0-liter engine with a more advanced 1.5-liter hybrid system, derived from the Yaris. This setup delivers 114 horsepower and is paired with a CVT automatic transmission, significantly enhancing performance. The new hybrid Aygo X can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in under 10 seconds—a notable improvement from the previous model’s 14+ seconds.

In terms of design, the car has undergone bold visual and mechanical upgrades, including a redesigned front fascia with a wider grille and sharper LED headlights, new alloy wheels up to 18 inches, and aggressive exterior accents that give the car a more dynamic, contemporary look.

For enthusiasts of sporty driving, Toyota introduces the GR Sport variant for the first time in this lineup—developed by Gazoo Racing. This edition features a distinctive two-tone paint scheme, a unique sport grille, and an upgraded suspension system that enhances stability and responsiveness during spirited driving.

Inside, the Aygo X Hybrid brings a host of modern enhancements:

  • A fully digital instrument cluster displaying hybrid system and driving information
  • An advanced infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
  • Seats crafted from eco-friendly, sustainable materials
  • Fast-charging USB-C ports for added convenience

Toyota has also equipped the new model with the latest Toyota Safety Sense suite, including:

  • Pre-collision warning system
  • Lane keeping assist
  • Road sign recognition
  • Smart emergency braking
  • Proactive driving assist for smoother reactions in dynamic situations
  • Despite the inclusion of a hybrid battery, the car retains its 231-liter trunk capacity, thanks to a smart design that houses the battery beneath the rear seats.

Toyota plans to launch the Aygo X Hybrid in European markets by the end of 2025, with pre-orders expected to open in the last quarter of the year. Pricing is projected to start around €18,000 (approximately $20,500 USD).
