The Cabinet Approves Reduction of Special Tax on Electric Vehicles Until the End of the Year

During its session held on Saturday, chaired by Prime Minister Dr. Jaafar Hassan, the Cabinet approved a reduction in the special tax on electric vehicles according to specific value brackets:

Vehicles valued between 10,000 and 25,000 Jordanian Dinars (customs value): Tax reduced from 40% to 20%.

Vehicles valued above 25,000 Jordanian Dinars (customs value): Tax reduced from 55% to 27.5%.

The decision applies to electric vehicles stored in bonded warehouses and free zones prior to its issuance. Additionally, the tax difference will be refunded to citizens who cleared their vehicles between the 2024 tax amendment and the issuance of this decision. The decision will remain effective until the end of 2024 and will not be renewed.

This move follows a two-month government study in response to feedback from citizens and experts, particularly regarding uncleared vehicles in free zones that were affected by previous tax rates. The aim is to alleviate financial burdens on citizens and encourage the adoption of electric vehicles.

It is worth noting that electric vehicles with a customs value below 10,000 Jordanian Dinars are fully exempt from the special tax. This exemption supports middle-income citizens and promotes energy-efficient and environmentally friendly transportation solutions.
