Stellantis has announced a massive recall campaign encompassing over 1.3 million popular Jeep vehicles worldwide, spanning model years 2021 to 2025, due to a manufacturing defect that poses a public safety hazard.

Technical Defect Details and Affected Models

According to official data released by the company and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the recall stems from an issue with the wiring harness of the electric-hydraulic power steering pump. This defect can cause high electrical resistance, leading to melted connectors and excessive overheating. Consequently, this may result in an engine bay fire, even when the vehicle is completely turned off.

The recall primarily targets two prominent models in the Jeep lineup

• Jeep Wrangler: SUV and 4WD versions.
• Jeep Gladiator: Light-duty pickup truck class.

Urgent Warnings for Owners

The recall decision follows more than 70 reports and complaints related to vehicle fires and one potential injury, with no crashes reported resulting from this issue.

In a strict precautionary measure, the company has issued an urgent directive to owners to park their vehicles in open areas, outside of garages and enclosed buildings, and away from other vehicles. This is to prevent the fire from spreading to homes or adjacent properties in the event of a sudden blaze before the necessary repairs are completed.

Resolution and Verification Process

Stellantis confirmed it is accelerating the production and supply of replacement parts, expecting the final solution to be available and the free repair campaign to launch by this coming July. Dealerships will inspect, modify, or completely replace the affected wiring and components.

The company has urged owners who wish to check if their vehicles are included in the recall to visit the official Mopar Recalls platform or the NHTSA website and enter their Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) to ensure their safety.
